The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard biological terror, but beneath Together exists a deep meditation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Millie and Tim transition from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions end. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but never too gross) body horror, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He fears the idea of totally forfeiting his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

Both characters face the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these fears of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor avoids being clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
